On my first visit to Poland I stayed here for 2 nights.
Self check in was easy and well communicated. We arrived a bit early but a polish lady who was cleaning there let us in and through sign language and hand signals we communicated well.Accomadation is basic but clean and located overlooking a side street just 50m from the centre. My only problem was my bathroom (room 3) was across the foyer which wasn't a problem but the room is unlocked by card but bathroom by key so you have to remember to take both if you go toilet in the night (I didnt and had a cold 1st night on the floor as couldn't get any help till Morning!!)
I would use again.
I just loved to go here as I had great time in this guest house, I clicked remarkable memories in my camera, we got free WiFi swimming and many more activities to do. Night Out time is just fabulous. What lighting and maintenance services really noticeable.
We hired out the whole of the guesthouse as a group of 4 people and a very good rate. The location is fantastic and the decor is simple, clean, tidy and modern though no particular frills. Perfect for what we needed.
My only negative would be the showers in some rooms just have shower curtains and it is very easy to flood the bathrooms. Shower screens in all rooms would be fantastic. We tidied up after ourselves and left the guesthouse in the condition in which we found out which was appreciated by the maid.
Booking in was very problematic. The address for reception provided in the email was wrong, the phone number on the email was in Ireland, directions to reception provided over the phone were also wrong, which meant we spent time searching for an address that did not exist. I showed the email and map from the Guesthouse to the man who came to fix the TV and he said the map was old and incorrect.
There were more problems but this space doesn't allow enough room to explain them all.
Grand Guesthouse is perfectly located, right on the city promenade. It is very clean, secured with codes and cards, we had quick access to kitchen and a large private bathroom. Personnel is very kind, one of the guys worked overtime to prepare our packed breakfast on the day we left at an early hour. The only downside is that the bathroom was not inside the room but you only had to take two steps to reach it. Maybe a tiny wardrobe in the room would be more than necessary to put your clothes in.
The directions for this hostel were very poor. Even when I got up to the door of it it wasn't very clear how I was supposed to contact the front desk because the buttons on the buzzer were non-discript (and there was no sign out front of the place explaining that this was the hostel. As others have noted there are two different locations for this hostel in Gdansk. I also found the staff to be kind of rude towards me regarding some of the issues I was having with my room.
We stayed in this hostel for 2 nights in (rainy) July. The room itself was great, my girlfriend and I shared a twin and were happy with the size and facilities. We also had a great window overlooking one of the main streets. The free breakfast was excellent, one of the best I've had. Of the few negatives, the atmosphere was a bit flat - it was mostly couples so I wouldn't recommend for single travellers. We struggled to find the entrance, and the instructions weren't detailed enough.
We stayed in a private room when we were there which is located in a different building, but not far from the main hostel itself. It was very clean, the breakfast was offered for free - it was nothing special but was fresh and very convenient when looking to get going quickly in the morning. They offered a pub crawl and had other amenities such as a laptop, xbox, a wii and a tv in the common area for all your needs.
